ENTRECONF DINNERS

The Wave

We discussed entrepreneurial growth and success with Nick Hounsfield, founder of The Wave. Nick founded The Wave in 2010, with a vision of bringing surfing, nature and ‘blue health’ to people of all ages and abilities.

The Wave is a slice of the ocean, inland, where everyone can enjoy perfect waves all year round and reap the many physical and mental health benefits they offer.

The Wave opened in Bristol, in autumn 2019 and was the first place in the world to use ground-breaking Wavegarden Cove technology. Nick went from £500 and a vision, to building a team and raising £30million to make it a reality.

Nick is the Chair of Surfing England, and was also selected to be part of UK Sports International Leadership Programme 2019-20.

Thank you to Rathbones for sponsoring the event.

Absolute Collagen

Last time: Female Entrepreneurs’ Dinner with Maxine Laceby co-founder of Absolute Collagen.

Despite clear evidence that companies founded by female entrepreneurs perform as well (or better) than their male counterparts, there remains a discrepancy in support – from funding to mentoring – that women entrepreneurs receive.

This event looked to challenge this imbalance and raise the visibility of female entrepreneurs in the region with tips, advice and collective discussion from influential businesswomen. The conversations were underpinned by the expertise of our partners, Burges Salmon and Coutts, whose support enables female entrepreneurs reach their full potential.

Huboo

Huboo is a remarkable success story, a rapidly scaling eCommerce and logistics business which added over 300 people last year, and has opened in Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.

Back in September 2022, we discussed entrepreneurial growth and success with Huboo’s co-founder and CTO Paul Dodd. Paul will be discussing Huboo’s founding story, rationale, values, growth strategy, value of advisers, funding rounds, maintaining culture, managing a rapid growth business – and much more.
